Recently, Kreed photographer, Matt Chenot and friends, went fly fishing up in the Sierra Nevadas. They hiked in 20 miles to fish this secluded river, and catch Kern River Rainbow Trout. They were blessed with many fish, good weather, and no problems.

Costa Mesa, CA (July 9, 2012): The second stop of the 2012 Rip Curl GromSearch surf series proudly presented by H2O Overdrive went off this past Sunday July 8th. 88 frothing competitors were met by 3-5 foot clean off shore conditions at the South Shore of Oahu’s grommet hot spot Kewalo Basin. Groms ranging from 16 years old to as young as 7, battled the consistent and rippable A-frame peak for the coveted GromSearch titles.

In the boys 16 and under division, the most seasoned and mature groms of the pack put on an amazing display of above the lip rotating aerials, as well as powerful arcs that threw mountains of spray with the howling wind. In the tightly competitive final heat, which was decided by a 1-point differential, Elijah Gates who was surfing up a division took home the big win! Coming up just short was Kaoli ‘The Fylin’ Hawaiian’ Kahokuloa, who was going huge all event with Dorian Blanchard and Kai Matsumoto finishing 3rd and 4th respectively.

Although Kaoli came up just short in the final, his tail-high, frontside slob grab air reverse earned him the H2O Overdrive Maneuver of the Event, and a custom backpack stuffed with 200 one dollar bills! With great risk, comes great reward…just ask Kaoli.

In the girls 16 and under division, the final was hot with action, as sets poured in one after another. Defending International GromSearch Champion Tatiana Weston – Webb was the clear favorite and it showed. Tatiana nailed 9.5 and an 8-point ride to take a commanding victory. Tatiana will do her best to defend her International title. Coming in 2nd was Honolua Bloomfield who impressed the crowd all day long. 3rd place went to Zoe McDougall and 4th was Emily Nishimoto; both girls are invited to the National championships. Rounding out the heat was Sierra Lerback in 5th and Sierra Larson 6th.

In the 14 and under final it was a battle of the Elijah’s, which both were surfing in two divisions throughout the day. In this final the younger of the two Eli’s took down the victory, Elijah Fox! The 13-year-old overcame the odds to beat the older kids and took the title. Elijah Fox is also Rip Curl’s newest addition to the team and Rip Curl couldn’t be more stoked for the grommet. 2nd place went to the 16U champion Elijah Gates, coming in 3rd was Hunter Johnson and in 4th Chris Bluhardt.

And finally in the super grommet division of the 12 and unders, the kids really stepped up their game and brought some high risk new school moves to the table. Standing out from the field was 9-year-old North Shore, Oahu native Dylan Franzmann. His polished and committed surfing was very deserving of the win. 2nd place went to the 14U champ Elijah Fox, placing 3rd was Hunter Lora, and rounding out the heat in 4th Connor Kennedy.

Hawaiian Island Creations the official retail partner of the Rip Curl GromSearch Hawaii offered up a very special award for this event. They wanted to award the surfer with the best sportsmanship a free custom HIC surfboard! At the end of the day the answer was unanimous, the award went to the ever stoked and smiling Jimmy ‘Ulu-boy’ Napeahi. Jimmy was rewarded for his politeness, good vibes, and aloha spirit.

Kreed team rider Brennan Aubol takes 1st Place at the Rob Machado Bro Junior Contest this past Saturday (6/16). The contest was held at Moonlight Beach in Encinitas, Ca.
The riders had to pull straws and select one of Rob’s personal boards(thus the Hurley/Reef stickers) for every heat, with the finalists picking only the weirdest boards available for the final heat.

We had a chance to give some sunglasses away to a bunch of High School students from The Grove Community Church in Riverside, CA.

It was so fun surprising a group of High School students as they were heading back from camp. We met them right off the freeway at a Coco’s and got to bless them with free sunglasses. We’re gonna be taking a deeper look this week at the Avenger frame. Straight off the back when you put this frame on you feel like the ultimate superhero. Hi KREED,

This is Ryan. Thank you for the congratulations. The race was the 62nd Annual Check Chase Hare & Hound. They had a special course layout in which we were able to choose whichever of the 3 loops in any order we wanted. My dad and I decided that going the loops in the normal order of 1-2-3 would keep me from being in a lot of dust from lappers if I were to do 2 and 3 first, and would keep me away from quads also. I got off to a great start and was leading but the ribbon soon disappeared and I lost the lead. I soon found it again and by the end of the bomb run I was 4th to the main trail. All 4 of us first riders also decided to do loop 1 first. So I had my work cut out to pass the guys ahead of me. I would catch up in slower technical areas but I would lose ground in the valleys as lots of dust was kicked up. Finally a little over half way through the loop there was a good long technical section where I made up a lot of ground. I caught 3rd and passed him right at the beginning of a valley so I didn’t get sucked up in the dust again. Then I was after 2nd, I was catching him fairly quick and he made a mistake and crashed in a ‘S’ turn in the valley and I closed right in. I got off trail immediately because I knew the valley that we were in and it was way smoother off the trail, once I was off the trail I instantly opened the throttle to wide open and went for the pass. I made it and was soon at the end of the valley in technical riding again so I could extend the gap behind me. By then first was way ahead but I focused on riding my race and staying ahead of the riders behind me. The 2nd and 3rd loops went smoothly with very little lappers and the riders ahead of me heard me coming and moved right away. I made very few mistakes and no crashes. By the middle of the third loop I was a little tired and 3rd place had caught back up to me. I pushed forward all the way to the last valley and picked the smoothest line into the finish I could, the rider passed me towards the end of the valley but I saw him and held the bike wide open to get back ahead and beat him to the finish by a few seconds. I ended up second overall and 1st in class.
